On 19 February 2026, a Binusian-exclusive virtual seminar was held through Zoom with the title of The Ten Tech Mega-Trends that Every Business Leader Should Know. As part of the  “Current Issues in Business Communication”  (CIIC) course, this two-hour and forty-minute-long event had BINUS alumni Andrew Steven Puika as its speaker, presenting from Germany, and Irfan Rifai from BINUS’ Creative Digital English (CDE) department as the moderator.

Puika, who currently works at RWTH Aachen University as a software engineer and is an operational director and co-founder of LAYAK Foundation, compared short-lived trends and ‘mega trends’ by using metaphor. He likened the fleeting short-lived trends to the limited lifespan of a lit matchstick. On the other hand, he described mega trends as durable and massive, likening them to a large tree.

While many examples of mega trends were mentioned, such as electric vehicles; social media; e-commerce; and so on, Puika focused on emerging technologies like AI. He presented potential uses for it in software engineering and cybersecurity, as well as the concept of two-person verification of AI-generated content.

Aside from AI, other technologies were also focused on, one of them being Extended Reality (XR). The example Puika used for XR was that of a senior engineer wearing an XR headset to assist a technician abroad. Other technologies that he covered were 5G, robotics, and quantum computing.

Afterwards, Puika shifted his focus to another kind of potential: the future prospects of the attending Binusians. He gave advice on finding one’s passion, using insight and turning it into action, and how to build momentum with a strategic roadmap. The very last slide of the presentation featured a ‘thank you’ and a quote: “Great initiatives start as small ideas, gathering momentum like a rolling snowball, until their collective impact resonates like a struck gong.”
