This week’s Kapita Selekta class welcomed a distinguished guest from the Ministry of Transportation, Ms. Tuti Handayani. With her role as the Inspector of Air Transportation Security from the Ministry, Tuti exposed the role of air transport in tourism ; the roles, the operating sectors, and the mutual benefits that tourism and air transport industries have to share.

Having a bachelor degree in English, Tuti conducted the 2 – hour public lecture session in full English and interacted with attentive participants likewise. In her lecture, Tuti stressed the significant role of aviation industry in supporting the life of tourism industry. She presented the data on the numbers of tourists being flown by planes in certain period of time and later underlined the needs to keep these tourists to feel safe and secured. And that is where her responsibility lies.

6th semester students attending the session felt that they have learned a great deal of practical issues and knowledge from our presenter. Many said that they are now more inspired to jump into the tourism industry like many other graduates from English department have.
