A Fruitful Academic Writing session with Prof. Charles Hall
On February 21, we fulfilled an invitation form @America to attend a workshop delivered by Dr. Charless Hall, a linguist from University of Memphis, USA on Academic Writing. One lecturer, Irfan Rifai and four students; Alesandro, Dena , Stefan and Riza went there and found that the workshop was fruitful and engaging. Alesandro, Dena and Stefan shared their impression of the workshop.
Stefan:
For me this event is very helpful because I did not know how to start writing in academic way while the university demands the students should be able to write academically. By attending to this event at least I know what the format to write academically is. I will be focusing more on the content of the paper rather than fixing the format of academic paper. Also the format of both academic writing and spoken English are applied internationally so that we could bring our paper to international website as an education article, magazines, etc.
Dena:
Learning the academic writing’s workshop which was held by @America was a great experience for me. Through this workshop, I get several essential insights of academic writing’s skill. Moreover, the speakers enriched us with relevant knowledge and informative explanation about mastering the academic writing.Writing is a piece of humanity’s work which shares the creative idea and aesthetic art to deliver “something” to the reader. Everybody in this entire world can make a good academic writing as long as they are not afraid to make mistakes. Improvement comes from an error. Therefore, the best way to elevate our writing skill is by practicing. Furthermore, reading is the key to learn to write. If we read a lot, we will be acquainted with the writing processes. Hence, the art of publishing is not hard to master if you are original, precised, and always try to write persistently even though you often make incorrect things.
Alesandro:
Our visit to @America was adequately enjoyable in spite of the small number of students who went there. I was lucky to have attended a rare event led by two great speakers. Not only did they broaden our knowledge about academic writing, but they also could amuse us nicely, making me personally not feel sleepy at all. Despite my being tired on that day, I thought the event was worth attending. In addition to this, the given materials let me know what we would learn in the forth semester. We were given a chance to ask questions so as to make everything clear, and I took the chance to ask anything differentiating goggle fight from corpus. Last but not least, I would like to thank Sir Irfan who made it possible for us to go to @America.
