“Crossing Worlds, Shaping Futures” Seminar

On October 8th, at Kijang Function Chamber (KFC), BINUS held a seminar titled “Crossing Worlds, Shaping Futures – Your mindset might matter more than your skills”. The seminar hosted Dr. Bénédicte André of Macquarie University and moderated by our very own faculty member, Chandra Kurniawan. In her talk, Dr. Bénédicte André emphasized the importance of mindset despite the current changes of the skills demanded by the market.

She started off by introducing the concept of Transcultural Capital, which referred to the ability to navigate and integrate multiple cultural systems within a diverse set of cultural repertoires. If the capital were implemented well, it would create new forms of identity and socio-cultural connections and help us build our progress and resources. By being able to manage our transcultural capital, we would be more adaptable and versatile and be ready to learn anything new.

Dr. Benedict further elaborated the different mindsets that shaped how we respond to the events in our lives. Begun by curiosity, our expected reactions could be responsiveness, which involved understanding how people communicate and interact. Attentiveness, adaptability, and resilience were the last three mindsets that could influence how we discover, navigate, understand, and adapt to the experiences and environments.
