Techman Day 2025: Advancing Creativity and Healing with Poe-life, a Poetry Writing Application
Techman Day 2025: Innovative Technology for Humanity
The world is evolving rapidly, and technology has become the driving force behind innovation. From artificial intelligence to digital solutions, advancements are shaping how we live, work, and communicate. These breakthroughs have a purpose of improving the lives of mankind for a better, brighter future. This is why Binus Kemanggisan held Techman (Technology and Human) Day, a festival dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge inventions developed by lecturers and students, each designed to tackle real-world problems. The event celebrated how technology can elevate human creativity and solve today’s most pressing problems.
Poe-life: Emphatic Technology for Healing by Creative Digital English
But how can technological innovations stay attentive to the emotional, social, and even self-actualization needs of humankind? The Creative Digital English department presented an innovation that answers this question: a therapeutic poetry writing application called Poe-life. Developed in collaboration with the Computer Science and Psychology departments, Poe-life combines poetry therapy with emphatic technology to help creative expression and improve emotional wellbeing.
Poetry therapy has long been used in the fields of health and mental health to help the healing process. Writing (and reading) poems is not merely creative but also provides emotional expression for things that can otherwise be difficult to talk about. Through metaphors and creative writing, people can reflect on their personal experiences and find catharsis in the process. Emphatic technology has a similar goal – it focuses on understanding human emotions as well as responding and adapting to them, creating a personalized experience that feels more natural and emotionally supportive. Poe-life combines the two, utilizing technology to help users release their emotions through poetry and feel better. Upon entering the app, users see the question: ‘What do you feel today?’, encouraging them to reflect and consider their current emotions. They can then read and write three categories of poems based on their answer – Happy, Sad, or Angry.

Can’t Find the Right Words? Poe-life is Here to Help
Sometimes it is difficult to find words that accurately express what we are experiencing. What is unique about Poe-life is its use of AI word assistance to help users find the right words or ideas to express themselves. Users can click the Help button for suggestions based on the emotion they are trying to write about. They can also use the AI Assistant button – named Plath after the famous poet Sylvia Plath – to continue their sentence and provide ideas on what to write next.
Poe-life’s word assistance received positive feedback from the students who first tested it. By offering word assistance and empathetic design, Poe-life helped overcome the hurdles of traditional writing processes, making it easier to channel their thoughts and emotions effectively. Using metaphors and creative writing, they were able to express their previously hidden repressions. During Techman Day 2025, visitors were also able to try out Poe-life’s AI-assisted writing tools, finding exciting inspiration to develop their next writing ideas.

Mutual Support through Poe-life’s Online Community
Aside from being a writing application, Poe-life also operates like social media. Users can publish their poems, read and comment on other people’s poems, follow each other, and leave reactions on poems such as ‘Give Love’ or ‘Give Empathy’. These tools help users connect with others through poetry, eventually building a positive and mutually supportive poetry-writing community. Thus, Poe-life helps fulfil one’s social needs as well as emotional needs. Techman Day 2025 was an opportunity to extend this community, growing awareness of how people can use poetry-writing to heal and how technology can advance this effort.
As technology continues to shape the future, the Creative Digital English department remains at the forefront of innovation. Its unique curriculum equips students with a diverse skill set that merges language, creativity, and technology—preparing them for careers in various industries. Whether through digital storytelling, UX writing, or AI-driven content creation, graduates are poised to lead in industries where language and technology intersect.
