Writing a good research abstract is important to students of undergraduate to graduate levels. To perform well in it, according to Dr. Risa, students need to be exposed to reading a lot of good quality genre-based texts.

She addressed some problems faced by students in doing extensive reading, such as collecting adequate information on the topic of their choices, being confident in reading extensively and on using the  information for the abstract writing project. She proposed three procedures to do genre-based ER projects: first, students are asked to collect as many texts as possible, then, students need to recognise the communicative purposes in the texts, and lastly, students apply the model for producing the information.
