Where Do Words Come From?

Most languages contain words that come from many different places and different times. For examples, European languages share lots of common vocabulary, as well as words from ancient Greek and Latin. In fact there is a whole field of study on the origin of words – it’s called etymology. The discoveries we get from etymology can often be fascinating, especially if you like words.
