English for the TrotoArt Children
English , PGSD and DKV departments work hand in hand to give English and Art & Craft teaching to a big group of TrotoArt children in Penjaringan area, North Jakarta. The program was initiated by Sari Wulandari, Head of DKV department, who started the program since September this year. Started only with the art and craft classes, the TrotoArt children then had their first taste of English classes when Jimmy, Head of PGSD department, and Djuria, a Language Center Faculty Member, delivered a two-session English classes on Sunday, November 16, 2014.
Djuria introduced the names of colors, animals and fruits in English and followed it up with a drawing activity. The Penjaringan children seemed enthusiastic in participating and were fully engaged with the lesson until the end. Jimmy took his turn after a short break and invited the children to participate in a very interactive speaking practice activity. The class was filled with the children’s laughter and excited voices.
As part of their responsibilities as both good citizen and academician, our lecturers are happy to do what they can to give back to the community. We would like to thank Binus University who continuously supports us with this type of activity. [irf]
