Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, (and busiest, if you are working part time in the shopping centre). People are busy shopping for gifts and foods for this festive season. Just like in many other countries, Christmas is one of the most special celebrations in Australia. Well, we also have White Christmas here, white sands instead of white snow!

Since it is summer during Christmas, in this hot sunny weather Aussies like to have a picnic or BBQ on the beach (or at the park if you want some shades). They usually have prawns on the barbie, beer or champagne to cool down the heat, and pavlova for the dessert! Pavlova is a meringue cake that has a light and delicate crisp crust and a soft sweet marshmallow center, topped with whipped cream and fresh fruits such as kiwis, berries, etc.

During this season, we can have a Christmas light tour to visit houses decorated beautifully for fundraising purpose. Unfortunately, since this is spread widely throughout the suburbs from North to South, it’s difficult to see all the lights. We can only choose either North or South and it’s still such a long long drive. This year, Frozen theme is the most popular in Perth.

Then they also have a Christmas parade when people go down to the street to watch some institutions like schools and hospitals joining the parade. They are willing to be ready 4 hours before, just to get the best spot, bringing chairs and snacks while waiting!

Last but not least, let me present you this funny Aussie Jingle Bells!

Dashing through the bush
In a rusty Holden Ute
Kicking up the dust
Esky in the boot
Kelpie by my side
Singing Christmas songs
Its summer time and I am in
My singlet, shorts and thongs

Happy Christmas!
